Known as Joplin’s Premier Entertainment Center, Joplin Memorial Hall stands as a heartfelt memorial to the men and women of Joplin who served in the armed services. The Robert S. Thurman Post of the American Legion spearheaded the community support for construction in July of 1923. By September 12, 1924, on National Defense Day, the City of Joplin and hundreds from the community celebrated a cornerstone laying ceremony remembering those who fought for freedom for the United States and for people of other countries. Dedication and opening ceremonies were celebrated in October 1925.

Today, Joplin Memorial Hall prides itself on welcoming a wide variety of events for the citizens of Joplin and the four-state area. Joplin Memorial Hall has a capacity of 2712, and a floor big enough to hold high school basketball and volleyball games. The hall is affordable for various types of events from concerts and family events to food and garden shows.

Joplin Memorial Hall has featured pioneer performers such as Chicago, Kansas, Garth Brooks, and Reba McIntire to Third Day and Sugar Ray. We have also presented Grease, The Chorus Line, and comedy events starring Gallagher, Rodney Carrington, and Larry the Cable Guy. We also host family entertainment such as The World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions, The Shrine Circus, The Moscow Ballet, and Mooseltoe, the musical.

The City of Joplin renovated Memorial Hall within the last few years. The building has a new state of the art main floor for a variety of sporting events, also new stage curtains, and major improvements for ADA accessibility. In 2009, the City of Joplin will upgrade the stage floor ensuring our ability to continue to host more artists and events.
